Poll offices, FC convoy attacked; 3 bodies found

QUETTA, May 4: A Frontier Constabulary (FC) convoy was attacked in Turbat and three bodies were found in different towns as violence continued to haunt electioneering in Balochistan on Saturday.

A child and a political activist were injured in grenade attacks on election offices of the Jamaat-i-Islami and the PPP in Quetta and Hub.

The attack on the JI office left party worker Mir Ahmed Mohammadshahi injured, police said.

`The attackers were riding a motorcycle and wanted to target Wahid Kantar, the party candidate for PB-04 (Quetta-4) who had just entered the office. But he remained unhurt,` JI leader Abdul Wail Shaker claimed.

In Hub, assailants hurled a grenade into the office of Guam Amber Lasi, PPP`s candidate for NA-270 (Lasbela), police said. A child sitting in the office was injured.

FC MEN INJURED: At least five personnel of the FC were injured in a roadside bomb blast in Pashak area of Turbat in Kech district.

Official sources said that an FC convoy was going to Mand when an explosive device went off, causing damage to one of the vehicles.

`It was a remote-controlled bomb,` the sources said, adding that two more bombs planted along the road were defused.

The FC troops launched a search operation in the area and took some suspects into custody.

BODIES FOUND: A bulletriddled body was found on the outskirts of Turbat, police said. The deceased was identified as Hasil who had gone missing on April 24.

Another body bearing marks of wounds was found in the Cattle Farm area near Usta Mohammad. The deceased was identified as Bashir Ahmed, belonging to Sindh.

Police found a body in the Spin Karez area of Quetta.

Identity of the deceased could not be established.
