Three die as jeep falls in ravine

MANSEHRA: A woman and her son were among three persons killed and seven others injured when a passenger jeep fell into a deep ravine in Hilkot area of Torghar district on Saturday night.

The jeep, on way to Nusratkhail area from Judbah, apparently met the accident after its brakes failed, police said.

The local people and police retrieved the dead and the injured and shifted them to civil hospital in Judbah.

Police identified the dead as Ihsanul Haq, Faiza Bibi and her son, Mohammad Asim, and the injured as Naseeb Syed, the husband of the victim woman, Mohammad Khan, Mohammad Suleman, Shahzada Khan, Wajidullah, the driver, Tajmina Bibi and Sabirullah.

The police registered case and began investigation.

HONOUR KILLING: A local cleric shot dead his daughter allegedly in the name of honour in Darbanni area of Torghar on Sunday.

According to police, the cleric suspected that his daughter had illicit relation with a local man, who the people said was now settled in Karachi. The Judbah police registered case and began investigation.

Meanwhile, a three-month pregnant woman, who was killed in Karori area of the district, last month, was identified by her family after her body was exhumed here on Sunday.

Khababun Nisa had been missing from Peshawar for four months where she had been living with her husband. Her family lives in Lodhi Abad area of Abbottabad. However, the police have yet to solve the mystery shrouding her murder.

LAID TO REST: The principal of a school and his son, who were killed by extortionists in Karachi on Saturday, were laid to rest here on Sunday.

The funeral prayers of Mohammad Pervez Alvi, and his son, Mohammad Zahid Alvi, were offered at Gazikot township grounds attended by a large number of people from all walks of life.

`I have no words for those who killed my father and brother except praying to Allah to guide them on the right path,` said Mohammad Abid Alvi, another son of the deceased principal. Mr Abid said his father and brother had received threats from extortionists six month ago, and had once paid extortion to them.

Mr Alvi belonged to Shergar area of Oghi tehsil.
