BADIN: A partial strike was observed in many towns of the district on Monday in protest over registration of three FIRs against former Sindh home minister Dr Zulfilcar Mirza and at least 60 of his supporters for attacking a police station and ransacking shops.
In Tando Bago, Pangrio, Khoski, Shadi Large, Golarchi, Kadhan, Nindo Shahar, Khorwah and Sangi Furho, supporters of the disgruntled PPP leader observed strike for half day.
Traders in Badin mostly ignored the call for strike. Shops in business centres and bazaars remained shut only for a few hours and then reopened while traffic was as usual on roads.
In Pangrio and Tando Bago, Dr Mirza`s supporters took out rallies and staged demonstrations, demanding withdrawal of FIRs lodge d against their leader.
But local traders lashed out at Dr Mirza at a press conference at the press club for ransacking shops of their colleagues and warned they would observe a shutdown in the district on Wednesday if police did not arrest the suspects nominated in their FIR including Dr Mirza.
They told journalists that police showed no interest in arresting the suspects. Not only Dr Mirza ransacked their shops himself but his guards and armed supporterssnatched away cash from shops and fired at traders with lethal arms, they said.
They demanded that the federal and the Sindh governments take notice of Dr Mirza`s arrogance and his sheer disregard for the law of the land and order a judicial probe into his conduct.
They advised Dr Mirza`s wife, Dr Fehmida Mirza, to either stand by her husband or tender her resignation.
Dr Mirza threatens to divulge more secrets if arrested BADIN: Former Sindh home minister and disgruntled PPP leader Dr Zulfikar Mirza has said he will disclose `very sensitive matters` if he is put behind bars.
As he talked to journalists at Morjhar House on Monday more than a dozen police mobiles waited not far from him at a bus stop for orders to take action.
Dr Mirza warned that he would resist if police came without an honest officer to arrest him and then the entire responsibility would rest on police authorities.
`I have no faith in the Sindh government that it will serve justice in my case. I will seek justice from the courts,` he said.
He said that registration of `fake cases` could not stop him from his struggle which he had waged for the sake of people.
`There are two persons for one grave.
Either I or my rival [former president Asif Ali Zardari] will be lowered in it.
