LAHORE: The landscape paintings of thirteen gates of the Walled City by Munawar Mohiuddin were put on display in a painting exhibition at the Minhas Art Gallery of the Government College University (GCU) on Thursday.
Painter, writer and art critic Mian Ijajul Hassan inaugurated the artist`s solo show.
Speaking on the occasion, he said Lahore would not be Lahore without its heritage. `The artist community wants the government to understand this,` he added.
He said most of the 13 gates didn`t exist anymore and Mohiuddin had recreated them on the basis of their descriptionin the historicalbooksand documents. `Munawar Mohiuddin has made these 13 gates eternal through his work,` he said.
Mr Hassan also urged the government to seek inspiration from the paintings and restore the historical gates.Cartoonist Javaid Iqbal said the oil paintings were vibrant and they didn`t only reveal the beautiful architecture of the gates of Lahore but also the energetic life aroundthese gates.
GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah and Fine Arts Department Chairperson Erfanullah Babar also spoke.
