`Non-payment of salaries` Gujrat MC employees` protest enters 11th day

GUJRAT: The PML-Q parliamentary leader in the Punjab Assembly Moonis Elahi visited the protest camp of the employees of Gujrat Municipal Corporation against non-payment of their four-month salary.
The MC employees have been protesting against the injustice at the Nawab Sahib Chowlc for the last 10 days.
Mr Elahi, who during his visit was accompanied by scores of party workers, was given a warm welcome by the protesting employees for showing solidarity with them.
The protesters chanted slogans against the MC authorities and city mayor who belonged to PML-N.
They told the PML-Q leaderthatdue tothenonpayment of salaries they and their families had been facing hardships.
They deplored that noneoftheconcernedofncials had so far paid anyheed to theirissues.
Moonis Elahi condemned the PML-N government for its `antipoor` policies and assure d the protesters of his support. He said he would raise the issue in the Punjab Assembly.
As many as 30 dailywage employees of Gujrat MC have not been paid salaries since December.
Some MC officials said the daily-wage contract of the protesting employees had actually been cancelled in December after the local government department found they were `ghost` staffers.
Meanwhile, local political figures belonging to the various political parties, including Usman Manzoor Dhudra and Afzal Gondal of PTI, Dr Tariq Saleem and Chaudhary Imran Anwar of Jamaat-i-Islami and some trade unionists also visited the protest camp and expressed their solidarity with them.
Haji Nasir Mehmood, the mayor, termed the protest camp a political stunt.
