APROPOS the letter `National anthem`s composer` (May3). One appreciates the writer for his efforts to ensure that Mr Chagla received the Pride of Performance, though it was belated and posthumous.
I am, however, surprised that the past governments did not consider awarding Abu Al-Asar Hafeez Jalandhari and Ahmed Ghulam Ali Chagla much higher and prestigious awards, keeping in mind their historical and outstanding contributions.
Our national anthem is considered among the top five in the world. May I suggest that both these history makers be awarded the Nishan-i-Pakistan, or at least the Nishan Imtiaz, in recognition of their contributions to our homeland. The Pakistani people owe at least this to the two gentlemen. May their souls rest in peace.
