Rain lashes many towns of Sindh

KA RACHI: While many parts of Sindh continued to receive showers with dusty winds on Thursday, climatic conditions some 1,600 kilometres south of the coast were found to have the potential of developing into a cyclone over the next couple of days.

However,norainfallwasrecorded in Karachi where the maximum and minimum temperatures were 39 and 26 degrees Celsius, respectively, with 32 per cent humidity (a measure of the amount of moisture in the air), a Met of ficial said.

He added that the weather was likely to remain hot and dry in the city with the maximum temperature expected to range between 37 and 40 degrees Celsius.

In Sindh, the weatherman said, Sukkur received the heaviest rainfall-50 millimetresfollowed by Nawabshah with 37mm of rainfall, Padidan 36mm, Diplo 23mm, Mithi 16mm, Moenjodaro 13mm, Hyderabad 8mm, Jacobabad and Rohri 7mm, Larkana and Thatta (5mm).

Rain with gusty winds has been forecast also for Friday in the Sukkur, Larkana and Mirpurkhas divisions.

At present, the Met official said, the persistence of clouds in the Arabian Sea south of Pakistan showed an area of convection with the potential to develop into a cyclonic circulation there. He said the sea surface temperatures and upper air analysis also pointed towards the development of a deep low-pressure area. He said numerical models were continuously indicating such a cyclonic activity in the sea some 1,600 kilometres south of the Pakistani coast within the next couple of days.

The Met department`s cyclone warning centre (Karachi) has been monitoring the local and regional meteorological conditions regularly and a weather advisory in case of a cyclonic activity will be issued within the next 24 hours, according to the official. He advised all the stakeholders and the authorities concerned to remain in contact with the PMD to remain updated on the current situation.
