Car-coach collision kills man, son in Lakki

LAKKI MARWAT: A man and his son were killed while nine others, including five women, were seriously wounded when a car and a passenger coach collided here on Monday.

The accident occurred near Ghaznikhel on Bannu-DI Khan portion of the Indus Highway.

Police said the car on way to Lalcl(i Marwat collided with the passenger van coming from Bannu.

They said the car was completely damaged in the accident and those onboard were critically wounded. Later, Mahabat Khan, an employee of Loralai (Balochistan) militia force and his oneyear-old son, Saqib, died, while his injured wife, Yasmeen Bibi, 33, and daughters, Laiba (16), Muskan (6) and Mahnoor (3) were taken to the district headquarters hospital, Tajazai.

Five passengers of the coach were also injured and admitted to the DHQ hospital. They includedGul Naseeba Bibi and her son Mohammad Awais, residents of Chunai Mastikhel, Mohammad Khan and Ghulam Mirdar of DI Khan and Gul Mohammad of Masha Mansoor.

Yasmeen Bibi told police a carelessly driven coach coming from Bannu side hit their car near Ghaznikhel.

Police registered a case against the coach driver and started investigations.

Separately, a man was murdered in Bargai village bordering the frontier tribal region. Police said the accused, Imdadullah and Hazrat Ali, shot and killed Gulzar Ali and escaped. They said a case had been registered against the killers on the complaint of Irfan, brother of the deceased.

ZERO TOLERANCE AGAINST CORRUPTION: Regional Police Officer, Bannu Division, Mohammad Ali Khan Gandapur has reaffirmed his commitment to implementing zero tolerance policy against corruption and malpractices in the police force.Speaking at a meeting at police lines here on Monday, Mr Gandapur said corruption was intolerable and those found involved in the ugly practice would be shown the door. Only the corruption free police force has the capability to serve people, protect their lives and properties and maintain sustainable peace in the region, he maintained.

The meeting evaluated the performance of subordinate police officers, especially station house officers on the basis of crime rate in the limits of their respective police stations and successful actions against anti-social elements.

The regional police chief asked SDPOs and SHOs to improve their performance and accelerate action against miscreants and criminals` gangs.

He made it clear that concerned SHO would face consequences in case he received credible information about presence of narcotics and gambling dens in his jurisdiction.
