Biker injured by kite string

LAHORE: A man suffered critical injuries after a kite string slit his throat in Nawan Kot on Tuesday.
Police said motorcyclist Shafiq was on his way when a stray kite string struck him. The man stopped the bike, the string cut his throat leaving him bleed profusely.
He was said to be stable at hospital. Kite flying has been banned in Punjab for several years owing to the casualties. Any violation is punishable with imprisonment and fine, or both under the law.
The Nawan Kot police launched an operation against the kite flyers and manufacturers in the area and arrested eight people.
The police have registered a case against those arrested under the Punjab Prohibition of Kite Flying (Amendment) Act 2009.
Meanwhile, the Akbari Gate police also arrested four people and recovered a huge quantity of fireworks and 1(ites from their possession. The suspects were identified as Muhammad Waqar,Ahmad, Afzal and Muhammad Khalid.
Police also recovered a large quantity of fireworks and chemical string from their custody and registered a case against them.
GANG BUSTED: Police claime d on Tuesday to have arrested a seven-member inter-district robbers gang and recovered cash, valuables, arms and motorcycles from their possession.
City Division SP (operation) Adil Memon said a police team after receiving information set up a picket at Ahmad All Road in Ravi Road area and arrested seven suspects of Jaidi gang, including its ringleader.
He said the arrested suspects were identified as Javed alias Jaidi, Shoaib, Mumtaz, Salman, Adnan, Muhammad Ahmad, and Owais.
He said they also recovered seven motorcycles, Rs300,000 cash, jewellery and weapons, including three pistols and one SMG rifle, from their custody.
He said during the investigation, the suspects confessed to have committed 34 robberies in Lahore and other districts of the province.
