MSF workers complain of `indifferent` governor

2017-07-05
PESHAWAR: The Muslim Students Federation activists on Tuesday accused Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra of ignoring the `sincere` members of both the organisation and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and insisted that many had quit the party in desperation.

They also threatened to demonstrate to demand the indifferent governor`s removal.

MSF provincial president Syed Haider Shah told reporters at the Peshawar Press Club that the PML-N leadership had appointed Iqbal Zafar Jhagra as the governor to restore the confidence of the workers but the latter failed to do the job.

Accompanied by MSF leaders Abdul Jabbar Khalil, Abdu Bakar Khalil and others, Mr Shah said the governor`s indifference had forced several senior leaders, including Khawaja Mohammad Khan Hoti, Haider Ali, Arshad Khan and Haji Abdur Razag to part ways with the PML-N and join rival parties.

He said the people, who had rendered sacrifices for the party and central leadership during military ruler Pervez Muharraf`s regime, had been ignored, while the selfish elements were dominant in the party.

The MSF provincial president demanded that the gates of the Governor`s House be opened to party and federation activists and their grievances be addressed without delay.

He alleged that the governor`s powers were used by a group of four people, including his (governor`s) brother to serve own ends and thus, harming the party`s interests.

Mr Shah said the gulf between party leaders and workers was fast widening.

`We have already conveyed our grievances to the leadership in writing and now warn if our demands are not accepte d immediately, we, all MSF workers, will set up a protest camp and stage sit-in outside the Governor`s House and Jhagra House in Peshawar to demand his (governor`s) replacement,` he said.

`We don`t need a governor, who is not ready to spare time to listen to the workers` complaints,` he said.

The MSF provincial president said the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited and Wapda were the federal government departments but their officials didn`t take interest in resolving the federation`s genuine problems just due to the party leadership`s disinterest.

He also said the MSF workers would meet the prime minister`s daughter, Maryam Nawaz, on July 9 during her visit to Peshawar and apprise her of their grievances.-Bureau Report
