KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Monday directed the police to trace the whereabouts of a missing student of NED University of Engineering and Technology and produce him in court.

Petitioner Abdul Moiz Khan submitted that around a dozen unidentified armed personnel, came in police vans and other vehicles, raided his house in Federal B Area on the night of June 3 and picked up his son, Abdur Rehman Khan, and since then his whereabouts were not known.

A two-judge bench headed by Justice Mohammad Iqbal Kalhoro directed the police to record further statement of the petitioner after his lawyer submitted that the police were not lodging an FIR in accordance with the statement of the petitioner.

A police officer assured the bench that the investigation of the case would be conducted by an of ficer not below the rank of a DSP.

The bench in its order said that after completion of such formality, the investigating officer must make efforts to produce the alleged detainee till Aug 9.

The petitioner submitted that his son was a mechanical engineer and further pursing a master degree from NED University.

He stated that police had refused to lodge a case and he approached a sessions court to get an FIR registered.

The petitioner argued that his son had also gone missing on Jan 12, when he wasvisiting his relatives in Taxila and local police had also lodge d a case in this regard.

The petitioner had filed a writ petition in the Lahore High Court`s Rawalpindi benchanditorderedpohceforrecoveryof his son.

Subsequently, he was released by his unknown captors on Feb 2 in Hasan Abdaal and consequently the petitioner withdrew the petition, he added.

When the matter came up for hearing before a division bench, a DSP informed the bench that an FIR had been lodged in this regard and also produced a copy of the same.

However, the petitioner`s lawyer argued that the FIR was not lodged as per verbatim of the complainant/petitioner.

The police officer assured the bench that if the petitioner appeared before police, his statement will be recorded accordingly.

Missing brothers` case The same bench on Monday issued notices to the federal and provincial authorities concerned as well as director general of Sindh Rangers and other respondents on a petition seeking whereabouts of two brothers.

Nasreen Mehmood petitioned the SHC stating that her sons, Dr Imran Mehmood and Sabih Mehmood, had been taken away allegedly by personnel of lawenforcement agency.

Besides the respondents, the bench also put the advocate general, prosecutor general and an assistant attorney general on notices with direction to file comments till July 25.

The petitioner argued that Sabih was picked up from his house by Rangers personnel in North Nazimabad on Feb 22 while Imran had gone to his dental clinic in Clif ton on June 22, but did not return.
