LA HORE: Many names are under consideration for the slot of new chairperson board of governors (BoG) of the Lahore Arts Council (LAC) for next three years as the three-year tenure of current chairperson Muneeza Hashmi will end on July 21 and a new board will be formed, according to sources in the arts council.

The chairperson`s seat is considered an important post when it comes to the functioning of the council; however, it`s an honorary seat.

There is no salary for the chairperson but there are other privileges such as a driver-driven office car, petrol and other facilities. After every three years, a new BoG is constituted with new members and a new chairperson.

The board has 12 unofhcial andsix of ficial members.

According to the LAC sources, the names in circulation for the seat of BoG chairperson include Attaul Haq Qasmi who has earlier held the seatfor abouteightyears.

The other noted names being considered are Muhammad Ali Baloch, the former executive director of the Lahore Arts Council, singer Waris Baig, film producer and director Shehzad Rafique, former director Shakir Ali Museum Amna Pataudi, poet and playwright Amjad Islam Amjad and playwright Asghar Nadeem Syed.

On completion of the tenure of the board, the names for the new board are proposed and they are sent to the Information and Culture Department for approval. The final approval is accorded by the CMSecretariat.

During the previous years, many known personalities have held the chairperson`s seat. They included actor Taugeer Nasir, Walled City of Lahore Authority Director General Kamran Lashari, Muhammad Malik and Attaul Haq Qasmi.

The outgoing board has Muneeza Hashmi as chairperson while the nonofficial members of the board are Taimur Azmat Osman, Nayyer Ali Dada, Sohail Warraich, Waris Baig, Naveed Fareed, Ayesha Arshad Shahnawaz, Amjad Islam Amjad, Asif Sana, Ghalib Iqbal, Rukhsana David and Amna Pataudi. The of ficial members are secretary Information and Culture, secretary Finance, deputy commissioner, Lahore, PTV GM, the PU College of Art and Design principal and LAC executive director.
