Robbers kill petrol pump guard, loot Rs6.6 million

RAHIM YAR KHAN: Robbers killed a security guard at a petrol pump, injured the cashier and made off with Rs6.6 million cash on Monday on national highway near ZahirpiroftehsilKhanpur, some 60 kms from here.

Reports said two employees of Saka Petroleum Zahirpir were on their way to bank for depositing cash worth Rs6.6m. As soon as they left the filling station, three robbers intercepted them at gunpoint.

The employees put up resistance as a result the suspects opened fire, killing the security guard on the spot and injuring the cashier who was shifted to Sheikh Zayed Medical College Hospital.

Meanwhile, the district police have `f ailed` to con-trol the increasing cases of robberies despite the new DPO Akhtar Farooq has taken charge of his of fice a few days ago.

The other day, robbers looted a tube-well shop of brother of local PML-N leader Mian Shahbaz Sharif at the busiest road of Zahirpir and took away a cash of Rs 1.2m.

The traders of Zahirpir immediately closed all markets to protest against the increasing incidence of robberies.

Police spokesperson Saif Ali Wains said DPO Akhtar Farooq took notice of the crime case and instructed the ASP to look into the matter.

On the other hand, the DPO remained busy with Attaullah Tarar of PMLN, the Bahawalpur regional police office, the commissioner, and DC at his office to discuss the Kacha operation.
