LAHORE: Former National Assembly speaker and People`s Party central Punjab president Raja Pervez Ashraf has said that July 5, 1977, will be remembered as a black day in the political history of the country.

In a message issued here on Thursday to mark the 47th anniversary of the overthrow of the elected government of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, he said that on this day, a dictator killed an elected government and oppressed the PPP leadership and workers.

But the party fought the oppression for the sake of the Constitution and democracy in the country and even after 47 years the PPP is alive, he said.
