Beyond rhetoric

2025-07-05
THE recent tragedy in Swat that claimed multiple lives of a visiting family has left the nation in mourning. Words can never truly heal the pain that the family must be feeling, but as fellow citizens, we share their grief and stand by them, hoping that justice will be done.

Sadly, this is not the first time we have witnessed such an incident. It is deeply concerningthat suchincidents keep happening, showing how unsafe people still are in the country. What makes this even more disappointing is the way our politicians, policymakers and administrators never miss a chance to make big promises especially when it helps their own interests.

They talk about quick reforms, better security, and justice for all. But once the spotlight moves on, the promises fade away, and the people are left with the same system that has failed them time and again.

This gap between what is said and what is done is putting innocent lives at risk. There are hardly any foolproof safety plans or effective systems in place.

When people need protection the most, the system often fails leaving families devastated and communities living in fear.

Political leaders should consider going beyond delivering speeches. We need clear policies and their actual implementation.
