People`s welfare

2015-08-05
ON July 24 we had three bits of good news.

The Supreme Court gave a historic judgment on election rigging, Imran Khan accepted the decision, and the prime minister in his address to the nation did not use unsavoury words for Imran Khan.

One now believes that people at the helm of affairs can provide, if they want, a whiff of fresh air once in a while, and infuse a feeling of joy and national pride among the masses.

For instance, Asif Zardari may come on TV and announce that he has donated the two Bilawal Houses in Karachi and Lahore to open Benazir Bhutto University in the Karachi and Lahore campuses.

Similarly, the prime minister may declare his sprawling Lahore farmhouse a university in his father`s name something on the lines of Shantiniketan. I am sure others will follow soon.

Within no time we will have students from all over the world studying at the first Pakistani open air university.

Add to this the enormous boost that these two simple actions would provide to the perpetually unhappy and demoralised nation.
