RAWALPINDI: Awami Muslim League (AML) president Sheikh Rashid Ahmad alleged that about 250-300 PML-N workers attacked Lal Haveli here on Friday evening.
He alleged that Malik Sultan Mehmood attacked his residence along with his supporters. `It was a preplanned attack on me and I am going to lodge a complaint with the police,` he told Dawn.
However, former PML-N MNA Malik Shakil Awan termed the allegation baseless and said Sheikh Rashid had staged a drama of an attack on Lal Haveli to get public sympathy.
A rally was arranged by PML-N`s Union Council 45 (Chamanzar) chairman Malik Sultan at 7:30pm to warm up the pany workers for panicipating in a rally to welcome Nawaz Sharif during his travel from Murree to Lahore via the motorway on August 6.
The rally was passing through Bohar Bazaar when all of sudden its panicipants stormed Lal Haveli. On the complaint of Sheikh Rashid, police reached the spot and dispersed the mob.
When contacted, Shakil Awan said, `Sheikh Rashid has not been living in Lal Haveli for over four years so why the PML-N workers would pelt the empty house with stones. It is a drama and nothing else.
After the attack, the security of Lal Haveli was enhanced by police on the directions of the government.
In a complaint lodged with the Waris Khan police, the AML leader said he had been receiving life threats from the PML-N activists for the last couple of days.
He said if anything happens to him, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, state minister Abid Sher Ali and retired Captain Mohammad Safdar and their allies would be responsible.
