Riding an endeavour!

By Our Staff Reporter 2014-09-05
LAHORE: Looking a group of children watching their seniors assembling mountain bikes at a marquee along Canal Bank Road on Thursday was a treat. The process was to complete in its stipulated time but the class III to V students waited calmly.

`It`s my heartiest desire to have a bike of my own. My elder brother has his but I cannot ride on it because it is difficult for me to get on it,` said Ahsan, a class III student. His one-year older sibling, Arooma, would `love to drive in the street and a garden` under the supervision of some elder of the family. `My cousins have bikes and they let me get on theirs but occasionally,` she said.

Muneeb Usman of class IV shared a `secret`: `I know how to drive a motorcycle but I cannot because I am not taller enough to do so. I wish I could do a wheelie on my new bike on the Canal Road.` Ahsan intervened: `He has attempted (wheelle) in the street on the bike of a friend and got himself hurt many times.

Aima Saleem, Hamna Tariq and Maheen of class V would ride their bikes at the courtyard and the roof of their houses. `We would also give our friends a chance to get on our new bikes,` said Maheen.

A management development and consulting company, Possibilities, collaborated with Carmudi, online vehicle platforms, and Roshni Homes Trust to donate mountain bikes to underprivileged and orphaned children. The event was attended by Erwin Sikma (Global MD, Carmudi), Ali Izhar (MD, Carmudi Pakistan), Ahmed Dar (President, Roshni Homes), Khwaja Shirjeel (Director Fundraising, Roshni Homes Trust), Qaiser Abbas (Leadership and Team Coach, Possibilities) and others.
