LAHORE: The Tehreeki-Istiglal has urged the Supreme Court to play its role in resolving the political crisis by suspending the prime minister for three months.

`The Supreme Court should step forward and resolve the crisis lingering on for the last four weeks and suspend the prime minister for a three-month period for holding a fair and free investigation into the rigging allegations being raised by (PTI chairman) Imran Khan,` Tehreek president Rehmat KhanWardag told a press conference here on Thursday.

If the probe found the allegations true then fresh elections should be ordered otherwise Nawaz Sharif should be restored as the prime minister, he said, adding the step was necessary as other forums had failed to settle the dispute between the ruling PML-N and opposition PTL He said it would not be a novel suggestion as the apex court had earlier sent home former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani.

Mr Wardag also suggested that holding the next elections on a proportion-ate system basis for putting an end to rigging by individual candidates. He also demanded increase in the seats of all elected houses as well as reducing the term of government from five to four years.

Regretting that the provincial governments were reluctant to hold local elections, he said the policy was affecting development work and resolution of people`s problems at their doorstep.

He alleged that MNAs and MPAs were the main hurdle in the local government system, for they wanted their share in the form of commission in development funds.
