GSCE top scorer meets Malala, Sharifs

LONDON: Mahnoor Cheema, the 16-year-old British Pakistani student who scored 34 A stars in her GSCEs, met Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai and the Sharif brothers on two separate occasions, during which the activist and politicians praised her dedication to education.

Malala met Ms Cheema on the sidelines of an event, and said she is extremely proud of her achievements and dreams of a world where `every girl is given the opportunity to be educated`.

On Monday, PML-N leaders Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif welcomed Ms Cheema and her family to Stanhope House, where she was presented with a MacBook Pro laptop. Shahbaz lauded Ms Cheema`s achievements and wished her more success.

`I am so thankful to have received this gift,` Ms Cheema said.

Nawaz said both brothers congratulated Ms Cheema, telling her that she has sent a message of her capability through her achievement.

Her record-breaking grades made history in the United Kingdom internationally.
