KARACHI: Dawn regrets to announce the death of Shaikh Ghulam Hussain Hidayatullah, the Sind Governor, which occurred at 3-30 p.m. on Monday [Oct 4] at the Sind Governor`s House, Karachi. He died of heart failure. The day after the passing of the Quaid-i-Azam on Sept 11, Shaikh Ghulam Hussain was taken ill with a serious attack of cardiac asthma. The illness continued for 22 days. Shaikh Ghulam Hussain suddenly collapsed on Monday morning after having made good progress during the previous week. He called his relations in Karachi by his bedside at 11 a.m., talked with them for three hours and went to sleep at 2 p.m. The sleep was comfortable and the relations retired, but after an hour and a half the nurse in attendance came running. `He is sinking,` she said. All rushed to the room upstairs where he was lying. He looked at them, faintly smiled and breathed his last.

Karachi was taken unawares. People were surprised at the flags lowered at half-mast at the Sind Governor`s House and the GovernorGeneral`s House... .
