KARACHI: The Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) has achieved a significant milestone by successfully completing 125 liver transplant cases.

DUHS became the first public sector university in Pakistan to offer transplant facilities in May 2016 said university spokeperson.

The rise in cases of end-stage liver disease and acute liver failure in Pakistan makes this milestone even more significant. The liver transplant programme re cently received a review from Dr John LaMattina, a renowned expert in trans-plant surgery associated with the University of Chicago as a senior professor.

During his visit, he supervised three transplant surgeries at the hospital and remained engaged in discussions with local experts. He shared the global revolution in transplant surgery and how developing countries like Pakistan could benefit from this progress. He stressed the importance of creating public awareness about liver diseases and promoting both living and cadaveric organ donation. -Staff Reporter
