RAWALPINDI: An official spol(esman said here today [Nov 4] that India had not been delivering Pakistan`s due share of supplies to the Central Bari-Doab channels and the Sutlej canals, as required under the Indus Waters Treaty.
As a matter of fact, the spokesman said, the Depalpur canal has been totally shut down since Sept 23 and no supply has so far been received in the Central Bari-Doab channels which are dependent on deliveries from Sept 21 to April10.
The spokesman further stated that Pakistan had, as required under the treaty, paid to India, in advance, for the year ending March 31, 1966, about Rs. 44 lakhs in foreign exchange for the maintenance and operation of the works in India through which the deliveries are made. The stoppage of water by India caused severe damage to the standing Kharif crops and will seriously affect the sowing of the Rabi crops. Agencies [Meanwhile, as reported by our Correspondent from the United Nations,J Pakistan will co-sponsor the resolution in the UN General Assembly to be moved sometime next week calling for the restoration of the lawful rights of the People`s Republic of China in the United Nations.
