KMC`s rescue centre to be equipped with modern machinery, says deputy mayor

KARACHI:DeputymayorArshadVohra has said that the search and rescue centre of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) will be fixed with modern equipment and machinery and the contractual staffers working there will be regularised.
Briefing reporters at the KMC`s searchand rescue centre near Superhighway on Friday, he said Swedish experts had imparted training to 45 officials of the centre, who in turn as master trainers provided training to the first batch of 50 city wardens. Under a programme between 250 and 300 officials would get modern search and rescue training,he said.
He said those officials would be deputed at six different points in the city to provideimmediate rescue services to citizens in time of emergencies. He also lauded the performance of staffers during the rescue operation at the Thursday`s train collision site in the city.
Later, the staffers presented a rescue and search demonstration. Deputy chief fire officer Naeem Yousuf and municipal services director Masood Alam were also present.
