Rs50,000 fine for causing pollution

LAHORE: In order to control smog, the district administration has decided to impose a minimum fine of Rs50,000 on industries and brick kilns for causing pollution.

Deputy Commissioner Umer Sher Chattha chaired the meeting while RO environment, MCL officials, traffic police and DO industry were present there.

The DO environment briefed the DC about the situation of smog in the city. The DC directed the assistant commissioners of Cantonment Zeeshan Nasrullah Ranjha and Shallmar`s Tehinat Bukhari and DO industry to visit Ring Road and its adja-cent areas to monitor the situation.

Mr Chattha said a cracl(down should be launched in Industrial Estates against the factories causing pollution.

He directed the district administration officers to coordinate with environment department officials to devise a joint working plan to control the menace.

He ordered imposing a fine of minimum Rs50,000 on factories and kilns causing smog and pollution.

He further directed the traffic police officials to take strict measures against the vehicle emitting smoke.Earlier, the DC visited Unique School in Model Town to check the coronavirus vaccinationcampaign and was told that around 70 per cent students had been fully vaccinated.

The DC also visited UC 78 and monitored the dengue surveillance and directed the teams to destroy the larva and also distributed anti-dengue leaflets containing information about ensuring the safety measure among the citizens.

The DC also directed the assistant commissioners to visit markets in their respective areas to check the price of daily items.Meanwhile, city assistant commissioner Faizan Ahmed conducted raids in different areas to check the prices of flour and sugar.

He imposed fine on two stores inAkbari Mandi and arrested four dealers in Shahdara market while assistant commissioner cantonment Zeeshan Nasrullah Ranjha imposed Rs20,000 fine on a store keeper for selling low quality onion and tomatoes.

Meanwhile, the traffic police started charging Rs 2000 challan for the vehicle emitting smoke and causing pollution.

Chief Traffic Officer Muntazir Mehdi said 17 teams had been constituted to take action against the vehicles emitting smoke and causing pollution.

He said traffic police had requested the environment department to provide gadgets to monitor smoke emitting vehicle.
