Peace volunteer shot dead MINGORA, Dec 4: Unknown persons shot dead a peace volunteer in remote Sambat area of Matta tehsil here on other day.
According to police, vice chairman of local peace committee Ali Akbar was coming to home after offering evening prayers on Tuesday night when unknown assailants opened fire on him, killing him on the spot. The attackers managed to escape the area.
Matta police registered FIR against unknown persons, while some reports said that police and security forces conducted a search operation in Sambat and its adjacent areas and took some suspected persons into custody. -Correspondent Villagers hold protest ABBOTTABAD, Dec 4: Residents of Kakul village, adjacent to Pakistan Military Academy here, on Wednesday staged a protest demonstration against fixing of barbed wire and construction of walls around the land being used by them for offering funeral prayers since long.
The protesters also tried to stop the PMA authorities from construction work.
Talking to reporters, the elders said the land belonged to them as it was in their use before the establishment of PMA.
Meanwhile, keeping in view sensitivity of the situation, deputy commissioner and assistant commissioner with police also reached the spot to avoid any unpleasant situation.
The protesters dispersed after administration officials assured them of arranging a meeting with PMA high ups in two days to resolve the dispute.
Local officials said the land belonged to PMA as per revenue record. -Correspondent Purging police of corruption MANSEHRA, Dec 4: District police officer Khuram Rasheed has said the department will be purged of black sheep and people should not hesitate to come to police stations for seeking justice.
`The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police chief is taking efforts to make the policemen accountable for any misconduct, said Mr Rasheed while speaking at an open-forum in Balakot on Wednesday.
He said the SHOs, people had complaints against, were suspended and a departmental inquiry was launched against them and if they were found guilty of any offence they would be dismissed from service,` said the DPO.
Mr Rasheed said more police checkposts were being established in the district. He said a strategy was being evolved to register FIR of every complaint. -Correspondent Hospital short of doctors KARAK, Dec 4: Banda Daud Shah tehsil headquarters hospital is facing shortage of doctors and other facilities.
This was claimed by social and political activists at a press conference at Teri on Wednesday.
They said the hospital building was decaying for want of repair. They said the available staff also failed to serve the patients, particularly women.
The elders said even drinking water was not available at the hospital and demanded of the government to provide both male and female medical officers to the health facility.
They said that if the government couldn`t provide the required facilities to the hospital then it should shut down the health centre. -Correspondent Camp coordination PESHAWAR, Dec 4: Director General of Provincial Disaster Management Authority Atif Rehman on Wednesday said camp coordination and management was essential to help the government rehabilitate populations after disasters.
He was addressing a workshop titled `coordination and camp management` arranged by PDMA with the support of International Organisation of Migration (IOM), according to a press release issued here. Speaking on the occasion, IOM country representative Kathrine Smalley said that the organisation facilitated refugee movement, family reunification, return, resettlement and provided reintegration assistance.
She assured the PDMA of every possible help in rehabilitation of affected people. -Bureau Report Three injured in fire MINGORA, Dec 4: A widow and her three daughters sustained burn injuries in a fire sparked by gas leakage at Shagai area of Saidu Sharif here.
Police officials identified the widow as Zaib-un-Nisa, belonging to Bahrain and presently residing at Shagai area along with her three daughters.
`When she lit stove in the morning it caught fire, causing it to explode, said an official, adding army personnel deployed nearby brought the injured persons to Saidu hospital.
An official at the hospital said the woman and her daughter, Muneeba, 4, were shifted to Peshawar as their condition was critical. They said condition of the other two injured Javairia, 12, and Maria, 6, was stable. -Correspondent
