Plan afoot to build dengue control capacity

RAWALPINDI, Dec 4: Commissioner Khalid Masud Chaudhry on Wednesday directed health department to keep potential breeding sites of dengue mosquito `larvae` under surveillance.

Moreover, dengue control capacity building plan for ongoing season should also be finalised as soon as possible, he said while presiding over a meeting of health officials.

The meeting was attended by District Coordination Officer (DCO) Sajid Zafar, Additional District Collector General Ch. Muhammad Ali Randhawa and officers of provincial government departments and representatives of cantonment boards.

The commissioner asked the EDO, Health to conduct capacity building training workshops of doctors, paramedics and representatives of government departments so that they could undertake necessary precautionary measures to control dengue and could act as master trainers in the respective establishment.

He further directed to associate general medical practitioners and officials of private nursing homes in this training programme.

He directed to improve health delivery system in rural and basic health units and officers of administration should make a liaison with health officials to ensure quality medical cover facilities in all health outlets.

The commissioner also directed to ensure cleanliness and asked tehsil municipal officers to take action against those who are found throwing waste in Leh Nullah and other nullahs of Rawalpindi and cantonment areas.

He also inquired the supply of Atta, vegetables and fruits in Sahulat Bazaars.

He asked the officers of RDA and Wasa to make sure that open manholes are covered and water supply leakages plugged.
