LANDI KOTAL: The administration on Wednesday organised awareness sessions in dif ferent parts of Khyber tribal district in connection with International Aids Day.
Officials of the district administration along with people from different walks of life also took part in a walk held at the historic Bab-i-Khyber in Jamrud.
Later, a function was held at Government College for Commerce where speakers dehvered speeches about prevention of Aids and preventive measures.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Mehmud Aslam Wazir said that administration arranged for free screening of suspected Aids patients and so far 1,015 screening tests of such persons were conducted.
He said that so far only two residents of Khyber were detected as HIV positive. He said that they were provided with free treatment by the district administration.`The process of screening tests will continue so that complete data of the HIV affected persons could be collected and they could be provided with necessary medication,` he said.
The of ficial asked quakes to refrain from reusing syringes. He said that administration had already launched a crackdown against quacks to control the spread of Aids.
Meanwhile, scores of local people on Wednesday staged a protest demonstration against National Logistic Cell staff deputed at Nadra of fice in Torkham.
They accused the NLC staff of creadng unnecessary problems for the poor people, especially the daily wagers, who had to frequently cross the Torkham border in connection with their occupations.
They demanded of the Nadra of ficials to replace the NLC staff with their own staff to ameliorate their sufferings.Correspondent
