KARACHI: A constitutional bench of the Sindh High Court on Wednesday suspended a notice issued by K-Electric about disconnection of power supply to the Pakistan Railways till the next hearing.
A two-judge bench comprising Justice Sana Akram Minhas and Justice Arbab Ali Hakro also issued notices to the chief secretary, KE and other respondents for De 12.
Pakistan Railways petitioned the SHC and submitted that a dis-pute was ongoing between the petitioner and the power utility over payment of right of way (RoW) charges for using the PR land.
The PT had issued a demand notice to KE for payment of Rs78 million for utilisation of its land, but the power utility had moved the SHC and obtained a stay order against it, the petitioner`s lawyer said, adding that a day after obtaining restraining order, the KE had issued the impugned disconnection of power notice.
The counsel further maintained that the petitioner was providing public service and any disconnection of electricity would cause hardship to public as it would disrupt operations of railway servicesresulting in chaos.
