KOHAT: A shopkeeper, who had manhandled the assistant commissioner, Kohat, during an antiencroachment drive, was sent to Dera Ismail prison under 3 MPO, while another was fined, said the city police on Monday.
On the other hand, shopkeepers reopened shops and business places on Monday after a two-day strike against the alleged misbehaviour of the assistant commissioner with the traders.
According to sources, the business community and Afghan shopkeepers had been enraged over the campaign launched by the local administration to remove encroachments and illegal structures from the city streets.
The shopkeepers had rented out the spaces in front of their shops to vendors, toy, hosiery, mobile sellers and watchmakers at Rs500 to Rs800 per day.
But, the administration removed the extended fronts and other structuresinfront of the shops, which enraged them. Some shopkeepers who suffered losses instigated a shutdown by the bazaar union against the anti-encroachment drive.
