PESHAWAR: Senior teachers of various tribal agencies have demanded the immediate replacement of the Fata director (education) accusing him of creating hurdles to their promotion.

The threat was issued during a rally outside the Peshawar Press Club.

School Ofheers Association president Abdul Jalil Afridi, senior vice president M Alam Khan and general secretary Sher Wali Khan, who led the rally, said they had raised voice for the rights of teachers but the Fata director (education) was creating problems for them, especially on the issue of promotion.

They set a one-week deadline for the removal of the director and warned members of the association would take to the streets if the demand was not met within the stipulated time.

Abdul Jalil said the government had approved the upgrade of teacher posts two yearsagobuttheFataeducation director had put the matter on backburner.

Sher Wali said the Fata director (education) was a BPS-19 officer and therefore, his holding the current position of BPS-20 was illegal.
