Politics in Balochistan

2018-01-06
DEMOCRACY is indeed more a culture than a process. Therefore, it is but natural thatBalochistanislackingin avibrant politic al culture.

The on-going tussle amongst the provincial assembly members to unseat the Balochistan chief minister through a vote of no confidence is the norm of Balochistan`s politics.

The people ofBalochistan are alsoto blame as they keep themselves aloof from political activities. However, the entire onus is not theirs. There are hosts of f actors ranging from illiteracy to extreme poverty.

In such a state of affairs it is not surprising that a few dozen influential persons decide the fate of Pakistan`s largest province.

As a permanent resident of the province, I feel pained by the recent events and coming developments in Balochistan`s politics. I request all protagonists to exercise utmost caution, as whichever side wins will have a pyrrhic victory. The politics of revenge will return (pun intended) with vengeance.

A pragmatic approach and policy of live and let live is the only prescription for Balochistan`s peace and progress.
