Trump`s tweet

2018-01-06
T HIS is apropos the editorial (Jan 3). In his first tweet of the New Year, President Trump used undiplomatic language. He is completely unaware of decent diplomatic norms.

Undiplomatic language was first used by former president George W. Bush, who hadsaid, `You are either with us or against us.

Gone are the days of decent diplomatic language.

Your assessment is correct that Trump might be simply indulging in rhetorical threats that appeal to his isolationist political base at home or to justify American tax payers` money squandered in aimless adventures in Iraq and Afghanistan.

It would be childish to deal with Trump and his administration and reciprocate in the same manner.

Trump should realise that what could not be achieved in 16 years cannot be achieved by a salvo of tweets.

Abid Mahmud Ansari Islamabad (2) DONALD Trump`s tweet is a planned warning. In August 2017, the Trump administration had announced that it was going to adopt hard line against Pakistan by cutting aid and imposing sanctions.

The international community knows Pakistan has suf fered a loss of more than $120 billion in the war against terror.

Besides, it lost more than 70,000 precious lives.

Pakistan is not ready to be a scapegoat for the US f ailure in Afghanistan.

Pakistan`s sacrifices of should be acknowledged by the US. Islamabad should formulate a clear-cut foreign policy and declare `no more`.
