LAHORE: Two world financial institutions will help Punjab shift its thousands of schools and basic health units to solar power.
A meeting chaired by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif here on Sunday was told that the Asian Development Bank and French bank AFD would extend financial assistance for shifting 15,000 schools and 700 BHUs as well as the Islamia University Bahawalpur to solar energy.
The project would be undertaken in phases as the chief minister formed a steering committee to be chaired by him.
The meeting also reviewed the agreement signed with a Turkish company for setting up 100MW power plant in Cholistan. The project would be completed within six months. It was informed that the Turk firm was interested in making further investment in the power sector by setting up another 200MW solar power plant.
Meanwhile, the chief minister told a delegation of PML-N workers that a conspiracy had been hatched to stop the national journey to progress through `lockdown` and agitation but with the blessings of Allah Almighty and support of the public at large it was foiled. Those who were involved in this agitation and sits-in had done nothing except wasting the precious time of this country, he said.-Staff Reporter
