TAXILA: As the rifts between two groups of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) local chapter is widening, the one led by former Punjab sports minister Malik Taimoor Masood Akbar organised a massive women power show in Wah on Sunday.

The leadership discussed a future course of action for upcoming general elections. The women wing of the PTI held a membership campaign reaching out to women from all strata of society.

A number of students and teachers joined the party.

The event was held under the women wing of the PTI local chapter which was addressed by former member Punjab assembly Shamim Aftab, Kalsoom Chaudhry, coordinator PTI women wing, and Shazia Azhar, coordinator women protection authority Punjab, and other local leaders while former sorts minister Malik Taimoor Masood Akbar presided the event.

Office-bearers of women wing of PML-N, PPP and TLP announced to join the PTI with their supporters on the occasion.

Addressing the event, former MPA Shamim Aftab said the `imported` government had brought the country to the brink of economic collapse.

She added that Imran Khan had decided to struggle for the people of Pakistan and now it was the people`s turn to come out to express solidarity with the PTI chairman.

Kalsoom Chaudhry, coordinator PTI women wing, termed the women workers convention a historic moment as no such mega show had been organised in small towns in the past.

She said that although women were actively taking part in political activities, female turnout either in the provincial assembly elections or local bodies elections remained low despite the factthat the city had over 96 per cent literacy rate. She urged the women to actively take part in the electioneering process as their votes can change the fate of the nation.

Shazia Azhar, coordinator women protection authority, said that active participation of women in the convention showed they take interest in politics and were willing to speak up for their peers everywhere.

She said housewives had been the most-affected segment of society since the imported government was imposed.

She asked the women of Wah to play their role in the struggle against the current government.

She said though many people think women living in small towns did not take part in the country`s political affairs, the gathering showed they were taking charge of the situation on the political, economic and social fronts.

Malik Taimoor endorsed the positive role of prominent women in politics and their active participation in every field of life in the society.

He said that women were imperative for development and progress of the country and no society can get democratic success without active political participation of women.

He criticised those politicians who were doing power politics rather than serving the masses.

He added that women in Pakistan had proved their worth in all spheres of life by hard work and commitment.

`Our government was removed under a conspiracy but people are still supporting the PTI which is evident from the biggest ever participation of women in any political activity in the history of Wah.

He said 2023 was the election year and it means the year of Imran Khan.

The hard work of the PTI women`s wing is visible. Votes are not only important but they can play an important role in the progress of the country, he added.
