Funds allocated to new power company

PESHAWAR: The government has allocated Rs96 million to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Transmission and Grid Company (KPT&GC) to appoint emergency staff and get a building for its office.

According to a statement issued here on Sunday, KPT&GC has finalised the processof appointment of its chief executive officer.

The provincial government has allocated Rs 96 million for new company to appoint emergency staffand arrange an ofñceforit.

In this regard, a meeting of the sixth board of directors of KPT&GC was held with Energy and Power Secretary Nisar Ahmad Khan in the chair.

The meeting was attended by Special Secretary Energy Tashfeen Haider,Additional Secretary Energy Abdul Hadi, Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organisation chief Engineer Naeem Khan, Adviser Tala Mohammad apart from other members of board and representatives of other relevant departments.

The meeting was briefed about the progress regarding the establishment of the company and problems faced by the federal agencies National Electric Power RegularityAuthority and National Transmission and Despatch Company.

Important decisions were taken regarding the inclusion of electricity in the new system. The meeting approved to issue an early notification regarding the establishment of the company and its administrative structure with the support of World Bank.

The finance department also stressed the need for releasing the approved funds to run the affairs of the company smoothly.

Instructions were also issued to the authorities concerned for the purchase of furniture and other equipment for the office of the new chief executive of the company.

Power Secretary Nisar Ahmed said that the establishment of the power distribution company would prove a milestone in the improvement of the electricity system of the province. He said that KPT&GC would soon mal(e a history by transmitting cheap electricity generated from the completed projects of Pedo through its system.
