Couple, PN employee run over, killed by garbage truck

KARACHl: Three people, including a man and his wife, were run over and killed by a garbage truck on the Rashid Minhas Road in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Wednesday, officials said.
The Edhi Foundation stated that over the past five days, 14 people, including five children, were killed in road accidents in the metropolis.
The officials added that the incident occurred after the brakes of the truck belonging to the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) reportedly failed and the vehicle `went out of driver`s control`.
DIG-Traffic Ahmed Nawaz Cheema told Dawn that the SSWMB truck was crossing the Jauhar Flyover at around 5:20pm when it hit three motorcycles and two cars.
The bodies were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).
An Edhi Foundation spokesperson identified two of the deceased as Maryam Zehra, 45, and her husband Kamran.
Police Surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed said that Maryam was brought dead while her husband Kamran died during treatment at the JPMC.
The third victim was identified as Mohammed Farooq, an employee of the Pakistan Navy.
The truck driver escaped after the accident leaving behind the vehicle.
Bus driver kills mother and child In Khokhrapar, a woman and her infant son were killed while three others were injured when a bus crashed into a house.
DIG Cheema said that the contract carriage bus was parked at Khokhrapar-4.
When its driver tried to start the bus at 5pm, it did not start. However, when the vehicle got started it suddenly crashed into the house, hitting several people, killing a woman and her child.
