KARACHI: City Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Tuesday announced that the monthly revenue of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) had surpassed Rs2 billion for the first time in its history.
This significant achievement, he said, would not only fund various development projects and operational costs for the city`s water and sewerage systems but would also help settle the dues of retired employees.
`Boosting the corporation`s revenue is crucial for tackling Karachi`s ongoing water supply and sewerage challenges, ensuringthe uninterrupted provision of services to the city`s residents,` said Mayor Wahab, who is also the chairman of the KWSC.
`When we took charge of the KWSC, the revenue was alarmingly low. In response, a series of reforms and measures were implemented, including facil-itating consumers with easier ways to pay their water bills. These efforts have resulted in a substantial increase in revenue,` Wahab said, expressing confidence that this upward trend would continue, enabling the corporation to carry out its operations more efficiently.
He also highlighted the improvements made within the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), where the revenue recovery process was strengthened. Through successful discussions and agreements with K-Electric and other institutions, KMC`s income has grown, further reinforcing the city`s ability to fund essential services, he added.
In line with the manifesto of the Pakistan Peoples Party, Mayor Wahab reiterated that the party would continue to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the institutions responsible for delivering basic services in Karachi, striving for a better and more sustainable future for the city.
