Rationale for train project solicited

2016-03-06
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has been pleaded to order the Punjab government to reveal reasons behind the project of Orange Line Metro Train.

Judicial Activism Panel Chairman Advocate Azhar Siddique has made the request through a civil miscellaneous application filed in the main case pending adjudication before a division bench against the train project.

The plaintiff states that the government is spending billions of rupees from public exchequer, however, citizens have not been informed about the reasons and significance of the project. He says the government should apprise the people about the reasons that made it to curtail budget allocation for education and health sectors to facilitate the train project.

The lawyer states that a country like Pakistan cannot afford such costly projects where a majority lives below the poverty line and millions of children cannot go to schools.

He asks the court to direct the government to reveal basic idea and reasons behind the project. Staff Reporter
