LAKKI MARWAT: Killing of an outlaw in police encounter sparked protest as his relatives and villagers blocked the Indus Highway in Shahbazkhel here on Thursday.
The police had killed a wanted outlaw, Raees Khan, on Wednesday night in an encounter in Chuharkhel village of Darra Pezu town.
An official said that a police party raided hideout of the outlaw when local authorities received information about his presence there.
He said the police came under attack as they entered the hideout. He said the exchange of fire continued for half an hour.
He said the law enforcers searched the area when the firing stopped and found the body of the wanted criminal Raees Khan in the room.
On the other side, relatives of the deceased outlaw and villagers blocked the Peshawar-Karachi highway, alleging that the PO was handed over to the police alive and they then killed him in a fake encounter. They demanded of the government to order a probe into the incident.
MNA Mufti Abdul Shakoor and Pir Fawad Zakori also joined the agitation and assured the protesters of taking up the issue with the higher authorities.
