M UZ A F FA R GA R H: Gunmen broke into the house of former MNA Ashig Hussain Gopang in Alipur late on Saturday in a bid to, as he alleges, kill him.

Mr Gopang, former Public Accounts Committee chairman and father of MNA Talal Gopang, said he was asleep at his Gopang House when the gunmen tried to shoot him with a 9mm pistol in his room, but the bullet got stuck in the chamber.

Meanwhile, he woke up forcing the suspects to nee.

They, however, stole Mr Gopang`s tab, Rs9,100 and his mobile phone.

The Alipur City police registered a case against unidentified gunmen under sections 480 and 352 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Mr Gopang has been in politics since the 1970s; he was an MPA several times. In 2013, he became an MNA. In 2018, he Helded his son Talal Gopang as a PTI aspirant and managed to win the seat.

Talal Gopang is among the PTI dissident MNA.

He alleged that the assassination attempt was a wellthought-out plan, and he had complete faith in the police investigation. He said he hoped that the police would unearth the plot.
