SAHIWAL; A branchless banking agent and dealer of a private commercial bank has been booked for charging extra money from beneficiaries while issuing them pay orders under the Ramazan Nighaban Package (RNP) in Chichawatni City.

Chichawatni Assistant Commissioner Waheed Gondal told Dawn that Muhammad Azeem, son of Faqir Muhammad, an authorised dealer of a bank, was reportedly overcharging each beneficiary of the RNP.

The matter was investigated, and a complaint was subsequently lodged with the Okanwala Bangla Police Station. The complaint was filed by Muhammad Ashraf, secretary, Union Council 66, tehsil Chichawatni.

Sources said approximately 91,247 deserving families will receive pay orders under the package in Sahiwal district.

DC Shahid Mahmood said the district government had received 46,103 pay orders. Authorised dealers have distributed 8,969 pay orders among deserving families in various union councils. To ensure transparency, he said, the administration had formed vigilance teams to conduct visits, monitored by officials of the Local Government and Community Development Department.
