RAWALPINDI: The Government of Pakistan has invoked Article 1 of the Geneva Convention in order to put pressure on India to make her respect the Geneva Conventions while dealing with the question of Pakistani prisoners of war. Under Article 1 ... all the 115 countries which are signatories to the Conventions had undertaken `to respect and ensure respect for the Conventions in all circumstances`.

An official spokesman told newsmen here today [April 5] the Government of Pakistan was approaching all the signatories to the Conventions, reminding them of their obligation `to ensure respect for the Conventions in all circumstances`. ...
