Park in danger

2023-04-06
I AM a senior citizen and have been having my daily walk at the Aunty Park for more than a decade now. In the good old days, the park used to be frequented by walkers and joggers as well as children playing under the watchful eye of their parents. Things have changed now as the park has been converted into some sort of a playground, with boys, coming from as far as Keamari, playing football and cricket there.

I have been hit twice by cricket balls and once by a football. Even though I escaped any serious injury, the risk and fear are very much there to date.

The authorities concerned should immediately take measures to stop football and cricket being played before somebody gets seriously hurt.

There can be no debate over the right of the young to indulge in healthy sports activities, but this park was never meant to be a playground. Football being played on manicured lawns has left the southern side of the park completely ruined with no grass on a massive patch. This is, indeed, a social crime that needs to be curbed.
