Man, son wounded in raid by plain-clothes men in Manghopir

KARACHI: A man and his teenage son were shot at and wounded allegedly by over one dozen plain-clothes men, including one wearing a police uniform, in the Manghopir area on Wednesday.
The incident prompted local residents to stage a protest outside the police station on main road. The hourslongprotestended afterassurances ofpolice thata case would be registered against the responsible people.
The Manghopir police in a statement said that Yusuf and Fazal Khalig were shot at and wounded in firing in Sultanabad in Meer Mohammed Goth near Bukhari Masjid.
According to the area SHO Nadeem Siddiqi, after the incident,scores ofpeople staged aprotestinfrontofthe Manghopir police station.
The protesters told the media that after Fajr prayer,around 15 people, including one clad in the police uniform, came to a house in Sultanabad. They searched the whole house but could not find anything. Then they ask the family to sit in their vehicle. Three brothers sat in the vehicle when the plain-clothes persons also pulled their father into the vehicle, upon which, the brothers resisted.
The plain-clothes persons allegedly beat up all of them and when they tried to run they opened fire, the protesters added.
As a result, Khaliq, 42, and his 17-year-old son, Yusuf, were shot at and wounded.
The protest on main Manghopir Road ended peacefully after successful talks with officials.
The Manghopir SHO told journalists that the police were conducting an inquiry as to which unit of police had conducted the action in the area. He assured the protesters that action would be taken against `responsible` persons.
