KARACHI: About 100 bales of loose cotton salvaged from the Thole Produce Yard Cotton Fire of Jan 13, went up in smoke ... on Tuesday [April 5], at the Eduljee Dinshaw godown, opposite Karachi Port Trust building. The Fire was quickly brought under control and the damage was stated to be `minor`.

Mysteriously enough the fire started almost simultaneously at the two corners of the uncovered godown, diagonally opposite to each other at a distance of about 100 yards while heaps of cotton in between ... were unaffected. ... Fire engines of the Karachi Municipal Fire Brigade rushed to the spot and quickly brought the fire under control.

They immediately isolated the blazing loose cotton from the heaps which filled almost the whole of the uncovered godown about 5,000 square yards in area. Staff correspondent [Meanwhile, as reported by a staff correspondent in Karachi,] Dr Maria Montessori, famous Italian educationist, is expected to visit Karachi towards the end of April. She proposes to conduct a three-month course in the Montessori system of child education. ...
