REWARDS AND PUNISHMENTS: Now that the highest national award, the Nishan-i-Pakistan, has been conferred upon the late prime minister, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, after the Supreme Court had declared his trialunfair and notin accordance with fundamental rights, justice demands the withdrawal of all perks and honours awarded to members ofthe panelofjudgesthathadhanded down the unjust verdict in 1979. Also, it would be in order to recognise the acumen, vision and moral strength of the judges who had stood by the voice of their conscience against threats. Penalties and rewards must go together to promote fair play.
Haroon Sikandar Pasha Rawalpindi ONLINE RADICALISATION: Online radicalisation is an escalatingissue in Pakistan, with extremist groups exploiting digital platforms to spread hatred.
Unmonitored social media platforms have become a hotbed for violent ideologies. The fundamental causes political instability, economic disparity and manipulation of religious sentiments make young Pakistanis increasingly vulnerable. Without timely intervention, online radicalisation will continue to grow.
The government needs to implement stronger cyber laws, social media firms must be held accountable, and digit al literacy programmes must equip youth to counter growing extremist propaganda.
Muhammad Shahjahan Memon Islamabad ROAD ACCIDENTS: Heavy-duty trucks are difficult to manoeuvre in emergency situations. Unlike smaller vehicles, they require longer time to stop, and their drivers have to put up with large blind spots, making it difficult to see motorbikes in close range. Unaware of these limitations, motorcyclists ride close to such vehicles, resulting in accidents that can be avoided by exercising vigilance and following the law. The traffic police should take action to effectively regulate road traffic. Lane discipline and traffic laws must be strictly enforced. Moreover, awareness programmes should be carried out regarding what constitutes safe driving.
