GUJRAT: A married woman and the man she had an alleged affair with opted for suicide by consuming poison in Daswandi Pura locality of city`s Lorry Adda police precincts on Saturday.

Police said Sonia of Bhakkar had contracted a love marriage with a man of Kasur district a couple of years ago; however she later developed friendship with 21-yearold Umar Farooq of Gujrat.

The woman then started to live in Gujrat city and also filed a case in a local court of Gujratseeking divorce from her husband.

She went to the civil court along with her friend and upon return both consumed poison and went to the house of a maternal aunt of the latter where they took poison.

Rescue 1122 and police officials said the woman died on the spot whereas the man breathed his last at Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching Hospital (ABSTH).

The body of the woman was handed over to her mother who would live in Phalia with her second husband whereas the deceased man was laid to rest in a local graveyard by the heirs after offering funeral prayers.
