KARACHI: Health authorities deferred the polio campaign in seven of the 49 union councils on Tuesday after volunteers in these UCs protested against the non-payment of honoraria.

Officials said the polio campaign was deferred in six UCs in Baldia and one UC in Korangi for an indefinite period when volunteers protested and refused to worl< for not getting the wages.

A senior official said the volunteers had been issued crossed cheques but many of them had no bank accounts to encash them.

`The deputy commissioners of Karachi west and Korangihavebeenrequested to help solve the issue so the work is not affected any longer,` said the official.
