Testimonies recorded in 2013 kidnap, murder case of two Rangers` officials

KARACHI: An antiterrorism court on Monday recorded testimonies of three prosecution witnesses in a case pertaining to alleged kidnapping and killing of two Rangers personnel against Uzair Jan Baloch, the chief of the outlawed Peoples Amn Committee, and another man.
The alleged Lyari kingpin Uzair Baloch and Shaikh Sher Mohammad Sheroo have been charged with killing Rangers intelligence officials Havaldar Muneer Ahmed and Havaldar Ejaz Ahmed after kidnapping them in 2013 within the remit of the Pak Colony police station.
On Monday, the matter came up before the ATCXVI judge for recording statements of the prosecution witnesses.
Uzair Baloch and Sher Mohammad were produced f rom prison.
On the last date of hearing, Advocate Abid Zaman had filed power of attorney on behalf of Uzair after hiscustodywasrecentlyshifted to the prison from the army`s Corps-V in Karachi.
Prosecution officials said trials in dozens of cases, including the present case, against Uzair remained stalled for around three years as he was in custody of the army for trial in an alleged espionage case.
The judicial officials said that the invesugadng officer produced three witnesses of the prosecution to record their statements.
The judge recorded statements of the witnesses and adjourned hearing till May 14. The judge summoned more witnesses to testify on the next date.
The judge also put off hearing on an acquittal application moved by accused Sher Mohammad till the next hearing.
According to the prosecution, the Rangers intelligence officials, who were on a private task, were riding a motorcycle when some unknown suspects kidnapped them.
Both the kidnapped personnel were shot dead and their bodies found in the Mewashah graveyard on March 7, 2013, it added.
